DEACONS
WE BELIEVE THAT GOD APPOINTS DEACONS, AS ONE OF ONLY TWO OFFICES WITHIN THE CHURCH, TO BE LEAD SERVANTS WITHIN THE LOCAL CONGREGATION.
We affirm that Deacons exist to pioneer ministry and model the faith in love and mercy. The word deacon literally means ‘servant’ and is often used to describe the posture of all believers. In this sense, all believers serve as ministers of God. However, the office of Deacon is clearly described in Scripture. Deacons then, are members of the body who pioneer works of ministry and set an example for others to follow. Deacons are appointed by the Elders and work to oversee specific areas of ministry within the congregation. We affirm that both men and women, called, qualified and gifted by God, serve as Deacons within the local church.
(John 2:9, 12:26; Acts 6:1-7; Rom. 13:4; Eph. 3:71; Phil 1:1; Tim. 3:8-23, Acts 6:1-7).
