BAPTISM

WE BELIEVE BAPTISM IS A PUBLIC PROFESSION OF A SPIRITUAL AND ETERNAL
REALITY, IN RESPONSE TO FAITH IN JESUS AND IN PARTICIPATION WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT.
We are quick to baptize all who confess faith in Christ and do not  knowingly baptize anyone who has not made a profession of faith. We affirm that the vision of baptism laid out in the Scripture is one of immersion and that baptism does not secure salvation nor is it, on its own, evidence of salvation. Salvation is by faith alone. Where we are quick to baptize believers, we are slow to rebaptize. We do not require believers to be rebaptized in order to be members of Sojourn. We would, however, encourage each of those who were baptized prior to their confession of faith and who hold the conviction that their baptism held ‘no value’ or had ‘no impact’ on their life, to prayerfully consider being rebaptized in response to faith and in celebration of God’s grace.
